At certain times of the year I drive down Cahuenga Blvd on my way to ComedySportz  just as the sun is setting. I often notice the shadow of this giant cowboy silhouette, which resides on top of the Laser Pacific building, projected on the wall of the Ren Mar studios across the street.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – It could be called solar-powered movie magic. An artist has introduced a series of rooftop, billboard-sized cutouts that cast silhouettes of famous movie scenes on the walls of nearby studio buildings. Some of the classic shots that artist-architect Cameron McNall re-created in his Shadow Project include the posse from The Wild Bunch and Cary Grant being chased by a plane in North by Northwest. "It’s not like art in a museum," said McNall, 45, a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles Design/Media Arts Department.

McNall is a principal of Electroland, a firm that designs interior and large-scale urban installations typically with a strong technology component

Here is one from the archives. This is the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at the Los Angeles County Music Center taken during the Grand Ave Festival in 2006. I almost saw the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre here a couple of years ago but my penchant for spur of the moment arts viewing was my undoing and it was sold out when I got there.

Why is it that I have seen no dance and very little theatre since I moved to Los Angeles? Why have I done no theatre except for improv? Oh, I know…time and money….the two things that are always in short supply here…at least for me. I’ll have to make a point of seeing a play or going to a museum as soon as I have one or both of those things.
