At certain times of the year I drive down Cahuenga Blvd on my way to ComedySportz just as the sun is setting. I often notice the shadow of this giant cowboy silhouette, which resides on top of the Laser Pacific building, projected on the wall of the Ren Mar studios across the street.

Update: This is part of the Hollywood Shadow Project
LOS ANGELES (AP) – It could be called solar-powered movie magic. An artist has introduced a series of rooftop, billboard-sized cutouts that cast silhouettes of famous movie scenes on the walls of nearby studio buildings. Some of the classic shots that artist-architect Cameron McNall re-created in his Shadow Project include the posse from The Wild Bunch and Cary Grant being chased by a plane in North by Northwest. "It’s not like art in a museum," said McNall, 45, a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles Design/Media Arts Department.
McNall is a principal of Electroland, a firm that designs interior and large-scale urban installations typically with a strong technology component

Thanks to Cameron McNall for emailing sending me the link.

Hi Alison,
I’d like to ask your permission to use this image for a theatre production in London. If you send me an email address I’ll send you some more information about the project. Thanks, Zoe
Hi Alison My sons’ high school mascot is a ranger and has always been depicted by a cowboy characature. I am hoping to introduce a more serious image. I am wondering if I could use one of the images minus the weapon. I am also curious about the possibility ofa similar structure installed on the school . Do you know who the original artist is and how I can make contact ?
Hi Jean,
I tried unsuccessfully to find out where this came from (mostly through google). I don’t think there would be a problem using one of these as a basis for your mascot. Of course I’m not an expert. I don’t even know where else to look. Good luck and let me know if you find anything out.
